What is the pathway of the blood in the heary and what do they do?
↳ Vena carva- brings deoxygenated blood to the lungs
↳ Right atrium
↳ Right ventricle- pumps blood to the lungs
↳ Pulmonary artery- takes deoxygenated blood to the lungs
↳ Lungs
↳ Pulmonary vein- brings deoxygenated blood from the lungs
↳ Left atrium
↳ Left ventricle- pumps blood around the body
↳ Aorta- carries oxygenated blood to the body

Why is the heart discribed as a double circularory system?
↳ As it pumps twice for every circuit around the body
What is conary heart disease caused by?
↳ A build up of fatty material in the conary arteries making them narrow and reducing blood flow
How do you help someone with coronary heart disease?
↳ Stents to keep the coronary ateries open
How do you help someone with heart failure?
↳ Artifical hearts before a donor heart becomes availabe for a heart transplant
Why do people with faulty valves feel breathlessness?
↳ As valves do not fully open making the heart less efficient
How do you help someone with faulty valves?
↳ Biological valves (animals) or mechanical valves
What does the artery do and what is it’s structure?
Function
↳ Carries blood away from the heart (high pressure)
Structure
↳ Thick muscular and elastic walls
↳ The walls can stretch and withstand high pressure
↳ Small lumen

What does the vein do and what is it’s structure?
Function
↳ Carries blood to the heart (low pressure)
Structure
↳ Have valves to stop blood flowing the wrong way
↳ Thin walls
↳ Large lumen
What does the caillary do and what is it’s structure?
Function
↳ Carries blood to tissues and cells
↳ Connects arteries and veins
Structure
↳ One cell thick- short diffusion distance between blood and tissue
↳ Very narrow lumen
What is the pathway of air in the lungs?
↳ Into body through mouth/nose
↳ Down trachea
↳ Into brochioles
↳ Into aveoli
↳ Oxygen diffuses into blood in the network of capillaries over the surface of the aveoli
