Dumb Summaries
Simplifying passages, answer choices, or questions by removing details to focus on essential ideas, primarily through connotations.
Connotation
The emotional association or feeling that a word evokes (positive, negative, or neutral).
Excoriate
To severely criticize. The press excoriated the statue of Washington due to its inappropriate depiction.
Refute
To prove wrong (an argument rather than a work of art). It is related to connotation.
Transition Words
Words that connect ideas in sentences. Can be simplified to basic versions (e.g., 'accordingly' is like 'so,' 'likewise' is like 'and/also,' 'however' is like 'but').
