It is the first stage of writing process which contains different techniques that help you discover ideas before writing
P.A.T.T.
It is the acronym used to determine the writing situation
Purpose
The reason why you are writing
Audience
It is your target reader
Topic
The subject or the specific issue that your paper will discuss
Tone
Refers to the attitudes and feelings you want your writing to reflect toward your purpose, topic, audience, and yourself
Brainstorming
It is one of the better and more popular methods of pre-writing and its aim is to provide yourself with as many choices for your topic as possible
Clustering or mapping
Starts by writing a word at the center and think of other words related to the main topic, write them down and encircle them and draw lines connecting them to the main topic
Freewriting
Is writing down your thoughts nonstop, in the exact order, language, and form in that you think them. Uses the force of narration to draw a stream connected ideas out of the writer’s mind
Thesis Statement
The central idea of an essay
Working Thesis Statement
An argument containing your stand and what you intend to prove with evidence in the essay. It is called such because you may have to adjust it depending on your research and writing
