Thyroid-stimulating hormone
Causes the release of the thyroid hormone from the thyroid gland and causes growth of the thyroid gland.
Luteinizing hormone
In females, stimulates ovulation and the development of the corpus luteum.
In males, causes secretion of testosterone.
Growth hormone
Stimulates mitosis and cell growth and promotes growth in general.
Follicle-stimulating hormone
In females, causes the development of follicles in the ovaries and stimulates the secretion of estrogen and progesterone.
In males, stimulates sperm production.
Prolactin
Has several functions that include the production of milk in breast tissue, the growth and development of mammary glands and the promotion of parental behaviors.
Adrenocorticotropic hormone
Causes the growth of the adrenal cortex and the release of glucocorticoids such as cortisol.
