Fight or flight response

the process

The endocrine system and the automatic nervous system works together- the Stressor perceived by hypothalamus activated the pituitary gland- the sympathetic branch of the ANS then the parasympathetic is activated once the threat has passed

Stage one

The amygdala senses danger which is passes electrical signals on to the hypothalamus via the CNS

Stage two

The hypothalamus commands the ANS to activate the sympathetic branch

Stage 3

Once the sympathetic branch has been activated, the adrenal medulla which is part of the adrenal gland is stimulated

Stage 4

The adrenal medulla releases adrenaline and noradrenaline which stimulates the body

Stage 5

Adrenaline activates the flight or fight response
