What type of cell is an Animal/Plant?
What type of cell is a Bacteria?
What are the functions of Animal/Plant Cells?
Animal/Plant cells= Eukrayotic cells
Bacterial Cell= Prokaryotic
Cell membrane - Controls which substances pass in and out of cell.
Cytoplasm - Where the chemical reactions take place.
Nucleus - Contains Genetic Material/DNA.
Mitochondria - provides energy for the cell to function and releases Aerobic respiration.
Ribosomes - Site of protein synthesis.
Protein synthesis = Where protein is made.
What is Photosynthesis?
Photosynthesis is the process of plants using light energy from the sun to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose.
What is the Word Equation for photosynthesis?
Word Equation: Carbon dixodide + Water - - - > glucose + oxygen
Name the factors that affect photosynthesis.
1. Light Intensity
2. Concentration of Carbon dixodide.
3. Temperature.
Explain how each limiting factors of photosynthesis affect it.
HINT: There's 3.
1. Light intensity is a limiting factor of photosynthesis because as light increases so does the rate of photosynthesis, leading it to plateau, meaning it reaches a maximum rate and that something else must be the limiting factor like CO2 or temperature.
2. Concentration of Carbon dixodide affects photosynthesis because a higher level of CO_2 means more photosynthesis is created and eventually, platues like light intensity.
3. Temperature rises initially meaning the molecules move quickly and the enzymes work faster, then reaches an optimum and eventually drops, meaning the enzymes denature around 45 Celsius, then falls to zero.
Describe how to investigate the effect of light intensity on the rate of Photosynthesis.
HINT: Photosynthesis practical
memorise steps
1. SET UP: Put a piece of cut pondweed into a boiling tube of water.
2. LIGHT: Place an LED lamp at a set distance (e.g. 10cm) from the tube.
3. STABILISE: Wait 5 minutes for the pondweed to acclimatise.
4. MEASURE: Count the number of bubbles seen in 1 minute.
5. REPEAT: Do it 2 more times at that distance to get an average.
6. CHANGE: Repeat the whole process at different distances (e.g. 20cm, 30cm, 40cm).
