Cylinder Head
Top section of the engines that houses valves, ports, and forms the top of the combustion chamber.
crankshaft
Main rotating shaft that converts piston’s up-and-down motion into rotary motion.
piston
Moves up and down in the cylinder to compress air/fuel mixture and transfer force.
oil control ring
Ring on the piston that controls oil film and prevents excess oil from entering combustion.
combustion chamber
Space where the air/fuel mixture is compressed and ignited to produce power.
intake valve
Valve that allows the air/fuel mixture to enter the combustion chamber.
connecting rod
Rod that connects the piston to the crankshaft, transferring motion.
engine block
Houses the pistons and forms the main structure of the engine.
exhaust port
Passage that allows burnt exhaust gases to leave the combustion chamber.
camshaft
Rotating shaft that opens and closes the engine’s values in time with the crankshaft.
cam lobe
Raised section on the camshaft that pushes on lifters or rockers to open valves.
piston pin
Pin that connects the piston to the connecting rod, allowing pivoting movement.
cylinder
Round hole in the engine block where the piston moves up and down.
intake port
Passage through which air/fuel mixture enters the cylinder.
Compression rings
Metal ring near the top of the piston that seals combustion gases inside the cylinder.
