Scientific Method
A framework of steps used to conduct scientific investigation, allowing for systematic inquiry and concrete conclusions.
Hypothesis
A proposed explanation based on preliminary observations, which can be tested and falsified.
Testable Hypothesis
A hypothesis that involves measurable and controllable parameters that can be manipulated and tested.
Falsifiable Hypothesis
A hypothesis that can be proven wrong by a single observation.
Dependent Variable
The response variable that is measured or monitored in an experiment.
Independent Variable
The factor manipulated by the investigator to test the hypothesis.
Controlled Variables
Factors kept constant during an experiment to ensure that the results are due to the independent variable.
Replication
The process of repeating an experiment using multiple subjects to verify results.
Controls
Experimental trials where the independent variable is kept at a constant value, used to validate the experimental design.
Prediction
A forecast of the expected results of an experiment if the hypothesis is supported.
