Stalin invited the London Government back to Poland, but arrested them when they arrived.

What agreement did this violate?

To Churchill and Roosevelt, this was a direct breach of the Declaration of Liberated Europe agreed at Yalta.

Impact (The West)

The West viewed the Soviets expansion into different countries in Europe (e.g: Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary) as aggressive and an attempt to spread the communist ideology throughout Europe. 

Impact (USSR)

Stalin disagreed with the Wests’ notions as during WW2, Germany had invaded the USSR twice through Poland & 25 million Russians (One fifth of the total population) had died. 

Impact (Containment)

Containment: The US realised that it had to shift its foreign policy towards Containment in order to prevent the spread of communism any further.
