  • richard ii confiscated his land, but john of gaunt’s son, henry, raised an army to which richard surrendered.

  • he took the throne as henry iv

  • richard was imprisoned in the ponterfact castle and died in feb 1400

  • henry v was a strong leader winning the battle of agincourt, conquering parts of france for england

  • henry married the daughter of the king of france, and it was agreed that their children would be heirs to both countries

HENRY VI JUICY BIT

  • henry vi was just 4 months old when he became king and his uncles ruled both countries in his place

  • france was lost as joan of arc raised an army to restore the french monarchy

  • henry vi was a weak king as he suffered bouts of mental illness so the yorkists had already started to plan how to take the throne

THE FIRST WAR

  • the first wars of the roses happened on st alabans on 22nd may 1455

  • the yorkists were lead by richard (duke of york) who beat henry vi’s army and henry was taken prisoner.

  • later on in 1459, henry died at the battle of wakefield.

  • in 1461, richard’s son, edward defeated henry vi’s army and made himself king edward iv.

  • henry vi’s son prince of wales died during the battle and with no other lancastrian heir to challenge him edward iv remained king until his sudden death in 1483.

-edward’s sons were too young to rule so their uncle was crowned richard the third. It is said he brought them to the tower of london and killed them.

Henry tudor had descended form john of gaunt and raised a lancastrian army against richard iii and at the battle of bosworth frield in 1485. richard was killed and the yorkists, defeated.

henry tudor was now henry vii and was xrowned king, marrying edward iv’s daughter, elizabeth of york, a move that ended the wars of the roses.
