Ethical Guidelines
Rules a researcher must keep in mind when conducting a research to avoid harming the participants.
Undue Stress/Harm
Participants should not be physically or psychologically harmed unduly.
The stress/harm should not have a permanent effect.
Informed Consent
Before a study begins, the researcher(s) must obtain consent from the participants and have a responsibility to inform the participants about the nature of the study.
If a participant is not capable of understanding the consequences of partaking in the study, the consent is asked from the guardians/parents.
Deception
Deception should never be used unless it is minor and necessary. Debriefing the participants about the deception and justifying why it was necessary is a must.
Withdrawal
Participants have the right to leave the study at any time and have their data left out from the results without objections from the researcher(s).
Debriefing
The aim and purpose of the research has to be revealed to the participants and and any deception used needs to be justified.
Anonymity
The identities of the participants and their data have to be hidden when the study is published.
