4 parenting styles
authoratative, permissive- indulgent, permissive- uninvolved, authoritarian
Control
- managing a chil'd behavior from either a very controlling settin or from setting of few rules and demands
Warmth
managing behavior with acceptance and responsiveness as opposed to rejection and unresponsiveness
Authoratative Parents
warm but firm, encourage independene, maintain child's limitations, engage in discussions or debates, responsibility belongs to parents
Child of Authoratative
learn to negotiate and engage in discussions, learn value of their opinion.
Authoratative Development
lively and happy, socially competent, confident, autonomous
Authoritarian Parent
little warmth, controlling highly, strict disciplinarians, rigid rules and standards that are not debatable
child of authoritarian
discipline is valued over independence, adheres to strict rules, rebellion and aggressive, anxious, withdrawn, unhappy, dependent and submissive, poor reaction to frustration, highly excels at academics.
Permissive- Indulgent Parents
warm and undemanding, passive and indulgent, express love by giving into a child's wishes, parents view themselves as a resource but not an active participant.
Child of Permissive-indulgent
autonomous (decisions without parents), undermine authority, done respect consequences, difficult with self control, egocentric tendencies.
Permissive- Uninvolved Parents
no warmth, no demands, minimize interactions, neglectful, indifferent to child needs, whereabouts, experiences at school or with peers.
Child of Permissive Uninvolved
do poorly in school, delinquent behavior, impulsive, depressed, egocentric, decreased self control, similar to permissive indulgent.
