Narcolepsy
A sleep disorder marked by sudden uncontrollable episodes of falling asleep during wakefulness.
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)
The unexplained death of an apparently healthy infant, usually during sleep.
Cataplexy
Sudden loss of muscle tone triggered by strong emotions, often occurring in narcolepsy.
Sleep Apnea
A disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep.
Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Caused by throat muscles relaxing and blocking the airway.
Central Sleep Apnea
Caused by the brain failing to send proper signals to the muscles controlling breathing.
CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure)
A device that keeps airways open using mild air pressure, used to treat sleep apnea.
Insomnia
Difficulty falling or staying asleep, or non-restorative sleep.
Parasomnia
Abnormal behaviors or experiences during sleep, such as sleepwalking or talking.
