Excitability

• Muscle’s ability to respond to stimuli (ex. motor neurons, electricity)

• Example: When your motor neurons deliver an impulse to your biceps brachii, it contracts

Contractility

Muscle’s ability to shorten

• Example: When you flex your elbow joint, your biceps brachii gets shorter

Extensibility 

• Muscle’s ability to be stretched without tearing

• Example: A gymnast does a split

Elasticity

• Muscle’s ability to return to its original shape

• Example: After you stretch your muscles, they don’t stay in that longer state. After you contract your muscles, they don’t stay in that shorter state.
