- China's government made a control policy to discourage couples from having more then one child
--> this is supervised by workplace family planning committees where women must seek their permission to try for a child and there is often a waiting list and quota for each factory
--> couples who comply with the policy get extra benefits (free child healthcare, only children having a higher priority in education and housing later in life) while those who don't must repay allowances and pay a fine which causes women to feel pressured to undergo sterilization after their first child
- restricted contraception
- restricted abortion
- made unmarried adults ans childless couples pay an extra 5% income tax
- made divorce more difficult to get
- lowered marriage age to be 15 instead
- set up infertility centres
- encouraged the healthy and racially pure to breed a master race (eg-restrict access to abortion and contraception)
- tried keeping women out of work and confined them to the kitchen, childcare and church so that they can perform their biological role instead
- compulsorily sterilized 375,000 disabled people that were seen as unfit to breed on the grounds of physical malformation (eg-blind, death and epilepsy) many of which died in concentration camps later
- family is a private sphere where the government doesn't intervene unless things go wrong (eg-child abuse)
