Chronometer
A precise maritime timepiece used to determine longitude at sea.
Cartographer
A person who makes maps and nautical charts.
Synoptic Sampling
The collection of data from a large area at roughly the same time to provide a snapshot of conditions.
Sounding
The measurement of depth in a body of water.
Echo Sounder
A device that uses sound waves to measure water depth.

An unmanned underwater vehicle that operates independently without a tether or direct human control.

An underwater habitat used for marine research, enabling scientists to live underwater during experiments.
Aquanauts
People who live and work in underwater habitats for scientific research.
Satellite
An artificial object placed in orbit around Earth to relay data, support communications, or navigation.
Global Positioning System
A satellite-based navigation system that provides precise location and time information for navigation and research.
