Polar Molecule (Water)
A molecule with an asymmetric distribution of charge, such as water (H₂O), which has one oxygen atom and two hydrogen atoms connected by covalent bonds.
Covalent Bond (in Water)
The bond between oxygen and hydrogen atoms within a water molecule (H₂O).
Hydrogen Bond (in Water)
The bond formed when a hydrogen atom of one water molecule is attracted to the oxygen atom of another water molecule.
Solvent
A substance capable of dissolving other substances. Water is an excellent solvent due to its polarity, which allows it to dissolve many polar and ionic substances.
Adhesion (Water)
The property of water molecules sticking to other substances (e.g., water molecules sticking to xylem walls).
Cohesion (Water)
The property of water molecules sticking to each other (e.g., surface tension).
