Noun
A word that names a person, place, or thing.
Concrete noun
A noun that can be touched or sensed (e.g., house).
Abstract noun
A noun that cannot be touched or sensed (e.g., happiness).
Adjective
A word that describes or modifies a noun, giving details such as size, color, or shape.
Verb
A word that expresses action or a state of being; shows tense.
Adverb
A word that describes a verb, an adjective, or another adverb; often ends in -ly.
Tense
A feature of verbs that places the action in past, present, or future time.
Irregular adverbs
Adverbs that do not form using the standard -ly ending or have irregular forms.
Good (adjective) vs well (adverb)
Good describes a noun; well describes a verb or adjective (e.g., 'I did well in math').
Simile
A figure of speech that compares two things using 'like' or 'as'.
Metaphor
A figure of speech that makes an implicit or direct comparison without using 'like' or 'as'.
Personification
Giving human qualities to non-human things.
Alliteration
The repetition of initial consonant sounds in a sequence of words to create a musical or emphatic effect.
Onomatopoeia
A word that imitates a natural sound (e.g., 'buzz', 'clang').
