  • MOA: inhibits presynaptic DAT and NET, blocking reuptake of DA and NE

    • inhibits DAT more than NET

• Amphetamine-based Stimulants

  • MOA: inhibit presynaptic DAT and NET, blocking reuptake of DA and NE, increases DA release

    • increased synaptic cleft concentration of DA and NE → amplifying neurotransmission

SNRIs

• Atomoxetine (Strattera)

• Viloxazine (Qelbree)

Central Alpha-2A Adrenergic Receptor Agonists

Clonidine ER (Kapvay): shorter, non-selective

Guanfacine (Intuniv): longer, selective

MOA :inhibit NE release → enhance working memory and executive function

• stimulate a-2 adrenergic receptors in the brain

• Clonidine binds non-selectively to a2A, a2B, a2C receptors

• Guanfacine binds selectively to a2A receptors

Antidepressants for ADHD

• Bupropion (Wellbutrin) (DNRI)

  • MOA: dopamine and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor

• TCA: Desipramine (Norpramin), Imipramine (Tofranil), Nortriptyline (Pamelor)

• MOA: serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor
