Legal Issue
A problem or dispute concerning the interpretation, application, or violation of laws.
Ethical Issue
A situation that raises questions about what is right and wrong, often related to personal morals and values.
Personal Data
Information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual, valuable to organizations.
Privacy Issue
An issue that arises from collecting, accessing or using personal information without consent or control.
Data Protection Act (2018)
A law that gives individuals ownership of their personal data and requires organizations to obtain consent before collecting data.
Computer Misuse Act (1990)
A law to protect against the malicious use of computers, covering unauthorized access and modifications.
Cookie
A tiny data file stored on a computer by browser software that holds information about browsing activity.
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
A machine that displays intelligent behaviors similar to those of a human.
Machine Learning
A method of achieving artificial intelligence by allowing a machine to learn from data over time.
Robotics
The principle of a robot carrying out a task by following programmed instructions.
Algorithmic Bias
An ethical issue when AI decisions are influenced by biases present in the training data.
Intellectual Property (IP)
Creation of the human mind, including inventions, artistic works, and symbols used in commerce.
Copyright Designs and Patents Act (1988)
Protects intellectual property by making it illegal to copy or distribute without permission.
Trademark
A sign that distinguishes goods or services of one business from another.
Open Source Software
Software that allows access to source code for editing and usually is free.
Proprietary Software
Software produced by professional companies, typically costs money and comes with regular support.
Consent
Permission for something to happen or agreement to do something, particularly in data collection.
