Conflict between the American colonists and Britain. America wanted freedom; democracy; and independence.

5 Americans were killed by British soldiers in the middle of a violent anti-tax protest. Colonists erupted in anger when they learned about the killing.

They were very motivated to win; got help from allies (France); and had strong military leadership (George Washington).

They had a big army; well-trained soldiers; and an abundance of supplies needed to fight a war (weapons; food; uniforms).
