Wind direction / fetch
winds change direction daily due to weather systems
When wind blows from prevailing wings it causes large destructive waves
Larger fetch causes stronger waves
Weather systems
Uk is between warm Ferrell and cold polar cell
This creates high pressure, anticyclonic conditions (low rates of recession)
However depressions can form causing low pressure rising the sea levels
Also produce strong winds
Can also take days to reach th coast causing wind direction changes
Storms
very deep depressions have very destructive waves causing fast rates of recession
Global warming predicted to increase intensity and frequency
Tides
spring tides are higher + increase erosion
Near tides are lower and cause wetting and drying
Change 2x a day
Seasons
Winter
more destructive waves
Faster recession (2-6m)
Summer
more constructive
Slower recession
