Wind direction / fetch

• winds change direction daily due to weather systems

• When wind blows from prevailing wings it causes large destructive waves

• Larger fetch causes stronger waves

Weather systems

• Uk is between warm Ferrell and cold polar cell

• This creates high pressure, anticyclonic conditions (low rates of recession)

• However depressions can form causing low pressure rising the sea levels

• Also produce strong winds

• Can also take days to reach th coast causing wind direction changes

Storms

• very deep depressions have very destructive waves causing fast rates of recession

• Global warming predicted to increase intensity and frequency

Tides

• spring tides are higher + increase erosion

• Near tides are lower and cause wetting and drying

• Change 2x a day

• Faster recession (2-6m)

Summer

• more constructive

• Slower recession
