nouns (morphological)

words can be made plural by changing its form with the morpheme [s]

(doesn’t always work)

ex. dog → dogs

nouns (syntax)

word comfortably fits in the position after words called “noun markers” (the, a, many, that, these)

ex. that cat → comfortable
that beautifully → uncomfortable

cat is a noun!

adjective (morphological)

check if word can be given the endings -er and -est

ex. sad
sadder
saddest

adjective (syntactical)

does the word go well between a noun marker and its noun

ex. the ____ horse

the good horse → goes well!

does it go well after the word seem

the horse seems good → goes well!

how to identify adjective?

it answers the question
“how many?”
“which ones?”
“what kind?”

how to identify adverbs?

modifies verbs, adjectives, adverbs
answers questions:
“how?”
“when?”
“where?
