Plot

Sequence of events in the story: what happens from start to end.

Character

Person, animal or figure in the story.

Setting

Where and when the story takes place.

Theme

Main message, idea or lesson

Conflict

Struggle or problem faced by the characters (internal and external)

Narrator

The voice telling the story (can be outside voice or character from the story)

Point Of View

Perspective of which the story is told, e.g. 1st person “I”

Foreshadowing

Hints or clues about what will happen later in the story.

Suspense

Feeling of excitement or tension about what will happen next.

Irony

When the opposite of what you expect happens, often in a surprising or funny way.
