MRS C GREN
An acronym representing the seven life processes: Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Control, Growth, Reproduction, Excretion, and Nutrition.
Movement
Change of place or position by an organism.
Reproduction
The process of making more of the same organism.
Sensitivity
Detecting changes in the environment and responding to them.
Control
The process whereby an organism keeps certain internal conditions at a constant level.
Growth
An increase in size or cell number.
Respiration
A chemical reaction which releases energy within cells.
Excretion
The removal of waste products like urea.
Nutrition
The process of obtaining food necessary for growth and repair.
Pathogen
A microorganism or virus that causes disease.
Bacteria
Unicellular organisms that have a cell wall but do not have a nucleus.
Protoctists
Unicellular organisms that may have characteristics similar to plants or animals.
Virus
A non-living entity that can replicate only inside a host cell and causes disease.
Saprotrophic nutrition
Nutrition obtained by feeding on decaying organic matter.
Athlete's Foot
A disease caused by a fungus.
Plasmids
Extra rings of DNA found in some bacterial cells.
DNA
Deoxyribonucleic acid, a molecule that carries genetic information.
RNA
Ribonucleic acid, a molecule involved in protein synthesis and gene expression.
Capsids
Protein shells that enclose viral genetic material.
