Electronic Unit Injectors (EUI)
Mechanically pressurized, electronically controlled fuel injectors.
Hydraulic Electronic Unit Injectors (HEUI)
Injectors that use high-pressure engine oil to actuate the injector.
Mechanical Unit Injection (MUI)
Classic cam-actuated injectors that combine all fuel functions in one unit.
Governor Systems
Mechanisms that regulate engine speed in diesel engines to prevent overspeed.
Limiting-Speed Governor
A governor type that regulates only idle and maximum speed.
Variable-Speed Governor
A governor type that can maintain any speed based on throttle setting.
Isochronous Governor
A governor that maintains engine speed constant with zero droop from no-load to full-load.
Mechanical Centrifugal Governors
Governors that use spinning flyweights to sense engine speed.
Pneumatic Governors
Governors that sense intake manifold vacuum or pressure instead of RPM.
Hydraulic (Servo) Governors
Governors that use mechanical flyweights to control a hydraulic valve to move the fuel control.
Electronic Governors
Governors that use electronic control units (ECUs) to manage engine speed.
Fuel Delivery
The process of supplying fuel to each engine cylinder for combustion.
Inline injection pumps
Traditional diesel fuel injection pumps using a row of pumping elements.
Distributor-type injection pumps
Rotary pumps that manage fuel delivery for multiple cylinders in a compact unit.
New Scroll Fuel System (NSFS)
A pump-line-nozzle fuel system developed by Caterpillar, improving fuel efficiency and emissions.
Air-Fuel Ratio Control (AFRC)
A device that limits fuel delivery based on available air, preventing excessive smoke.
Torque Control Spring
A component allowing extra fuel delivery under load conditions for improved torque.
High-Pressure Injection
Injecting fuel at very high pressure to ensure efficient combustion and atomization.
Fuel Synchronization
The process of equalizing fuel delivery among all unit injectors.
