Passive listening
Passive listening is when you let the talker do all the work while you just listen.
Active listening
Active listening is when you play an active role by guiding the talker toward common interests.
Appreciative listening
Appreciative listening is when a person enjoys what they are listening to. For example enjoying a bird’s song or music.
Discriminative listening
Discriminative listening is when we single out a particular sound from a noisy environment.
Empathic listening
Empathic listening encourages people to talk freely without fear or embarrassment.
Critical listening
Critical listening is when a person evaluates what they hear and decides if the other person’s message is logical/worthwhile.
Filter
Distorts what you hear, you hear what you do based on your background and personality.
