What is movement?
an action causing a change of position or place
What is respiration?
the chemical reactions in cells that break down nutrient molecules and release energy for metabolism
What is the difference between respiration and breathing?
respiration is the chemical reaction that releases energy from food in the mitochondria of cells. Breathing is exchanging air with the environment using organs.
What is sensitivity?
the ability to sense stimuli and act accordingly
What is growth?
a permanent increase in size and mass by an increase in cell number and/or size
What is reproduction?
the processes that make more of the same kind of organism
What is excretion?
removal of the waste products of metabolism, toxic materials, and substances that are not needed
What is nutrition?
taking in of materials for energy, growth and development
What nutrients do plants need?
light, carbon dioxide, water, ions
What nutrients to animals need?
organic compounds, ions, and water
