What three parts make up a Chinese syllable?
Initial , final, and tone .
Can a Chinese syllable lack an initial?
Yes, but it must have a final and a tone.
What happens when 'i' or 'ü' acts as a syllable by itself?
'y' is added before it, with the two dots on top of 'ü' being removed.
What happens when 'u' acts as a syllable by itself?
'w' is added before it.
What happens when two third-tone syllables are read in sequence?
The first syllable changes into the second tone (3+3 becomes 2+3), but the written form retains the original tone.
