Argumentative Writing
A type of writing where you choose one side of an issue or topic to support.
Claim
An argumentative thesis or statement that represents the writer's position.
Counterclaim
An idea or reason that goes against your claim, typically used in the third body paragraph.
Rebuttal
A statement that attacks the counterclaim that precedes it.
Transitional Words and Phrases
Words or phrases used to connect ideas, sentences, and paragraphs in writing.
Coordinating Conjunctions
FANBOYS: For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So; used to combine phrases, clauses, and sentences.
Subject-Verb Agreement
A grammatical rule that requires the subject and verb to match in number and plurality.
Homonyms
Words that sound the same but have different meanings, often leading to confusion in writing.
Phrases
Groups of words that work together to convey an idea but do not contain a subject-verb pair.
Usage of Commas
Rules for using commas in sentences to separate elements and clarify meaning.
