Net Force
The sum of all forces acting on an object; measured in Newtons (N).
Friction
A force that opposes the sliding motion of two surfaces in contact.
Static Friction
when an object is at rest
Kinetic Friction
when an object is moving
Equilibrium
forces are equal (no motion)
Applied Force
push or pull
Gravity
The downward force due to the attraction between two masses.
Normal Force (FN)
The upward force exerted by a solid surface on an object resting on it.
Air Resistance
opposes motion through the air
Fluid Friction
when an object goes through a liquid
Tension
pulling force (string or rope)
Dynamic Equilibrium
When an object is moving at a constant velocity and the net force is zero.
Surface Roughness
how much friction
Smooth Surface
allows object to slide
