Beaker
A simple container for stirring, mixing, and heating liquids in laboratories. Cylindrical with a flat bottom and a lip for pouring.
Test Tube
A finger-like length of glass or clear plastic tubing, open at the top with a rounded bottom, used to hold small experiments and conduct investigations.
Florence Flask
A flask with a round body, a single long neck, and either a round or flat bottom, used to hold solutions of chemicals. Designed for uniform heating and ease of swirling.
Erlenmeyer Flask
A laboratory flask with a flat bottom, a conical body, and a cylindrical neck, suitable for heating liquids with reduced evaporative losses.
Graduated Cylinder
Laboratory equipment used to accurately measure the volume of a liquid. Can also be used for water displacement to find the volume of a solid.
Funnel
A pipe with a wide, conical mouth and a narrow stem, used to channel liquid or fine-grained substances into containers with a small opening to prevent spillage.
Evaporating Dish
Laboratory device for evaporation of solids and supernatant fluids, sometimes to their melting point, to obtain a concentrated solution or the dissolved substance.
Crucible and Cover
A ceramic container capable of withstanding extreme temperatures, used for chemical analysis; the cover prevents heat from escaping.
Reagent Bottle
Containers made of glass, plastic, or borosilicate, with special caps or stoppers, used to contain chemicals in liquid or powder form for laboratories.
Bunsen Burner
A device for combining a flammable gas with controlled amounts of air before ignition to produce a hotter flame.
Iron Clamp
A piece of laboratory equipment used to hold things and is placed in an iron stand to elevate other equipment.
Iron Stand
A metal rod attached to a heavy metal base for stability, allowing for easy height adjustment of rings/clamps.
Iron Ring
An iron ring that holds glassware such as funnels, wire gauze, or clay triangles for heating with a Bunsen burner, often attached to an iron stand.
Test Tube Holder
A holder designed to hold test tubes, but can also be used to hold pipettes and stirring rods.
Test Tube Brush
A brush with nylon bristles attached to a twisted-wire shaft, used to clean the inside of glassware, especially test tubes.
Wire Gauge
A wire screen used in an experiment to place under a container holding liquid being heated by a Bunsen burner, to prevent direct contact with the flame.
Tripod
A three-legged equipment used to support and hold various flasks, beakers, and other glassware during experiments.
Spatula
A tool used to take and handle small quantities of solid chemicals, functioning like a spoon for scooping material.
Stirring Rod
Equipment used to mix chemicals and liquids, usually made of solid glass, about the thickness and slightly longer than a drinking straw.
Mortar and Pestle
A tool used to crush, grind, and mix solid substances; the substance is placed in the mortar and ground, crushed, or mixed with the pestle.
Medicine Dropper
Instrument used to measure small amounts of liquids, usually in milligrams.
Test Tube Racks
Equipment for the storage of test tubes.
Laboratory Thermometer
A device that measures temperature or temperature gradient using a variety of different principles.
Microscope
An instrument used to see objects that are too small for the naked eye, using light to image the sample.
Triple Beam Balance
A type of balance used to determine the mass of samples using sliding weights called riders on three beams.
Pipette
A laboratory tool used to transport a measured volume of liquid, extract or deliver small amounts of liquid.
Burette
A vertical cylindrical piece of laboratory glassware with volumetric graduation and a precision tap, used to dispense known amounts of a liquid reagent.
Platform Balance
A form of equal-arm balance in which two flat platforms are attached to the top side of the beam, one at each end.
Analytical Balance
Used to measure mass to a high degree of precision and accuracy, typically found in a laboratory setting.
Alcohol Lamp
A device used in biology labs to heat the wire loop for inoculating bacteria cultures, preventing contamination.
Aspirator
A device that produces a vacuum using the venturi effect by flowing a fluid through a narrowing tube.
Tongs
Used to hold hot items such as flasks, crucibles, and evaporating dishes.
Volumetric Flask
A laboratory flask used in analytical chemistry for the preparation of solutions to a known volume.
Spring Balance
A spring fixed at one end with a hook to attach an object at the other, measuring the weight of an object by opposing gravity with the force of an extended spring.
