Observational Learning
Learning that occurs when an organism's responding is influenced by the observation of others, who are called models.
Model
The individual whose behavior is observed and imitated in observational learning.
Attention
Paying attention to another person's behaviour and its consequences is essential for this key process in observational learning.
Retention
Storing a mental representation of what was witnessed in memory, which is crucial in observational learning.
Reproduction
Converting stored mental images into overt behavior to enact a modeled response in observational learning.
Motivation
The factor that determines whether an observed response is reproduced, depending on the belief that the response will lead to a favorable outcome.
Aggressive behavior
Landmark research conducted by Bandura, Ross, and Ross (1963) demonstrated that observing filmed models can influence this in children.
Desensitisation
A psychological process where individuals show less reaction to real violence due to exposure to media violence.
Risk-glorifying video games
Increased smoking, drinking, and sexual activity in adolescents
