1 kHz, 2 Vpp sine on CH1 (Hi-Z load)
CH1
→ Waveforms
→ Sine → Parameter
→ Frequency = 1 kHz → Amplitude = 2 Vpp → Offset = 0 V → (optional: Utility
→ Output Setup → Load = HighZ or long-press Output 2 s to toggle 50 Ω/Hi-Z) → Output (CH1) ON.
AM (1 kHz modulation) on CH1
Set carrier first: CH1
→ Waveforms
→ Sine → Parameter
→ set Frequency/Amplitude → then Modulation
→ AM → Source = Internal → Mod Freq = 1 kHz → Depth (e.g., 50%) → Output ON.
Linear sweep 500 Hz → 1.5 kHz in 1 s (CH1)
Set base waveform (e.g., Sine) → Sweep
→ Type = Frequency → Mode = Linear (Up) → Start = 500 Hz → Stop = 1.5 kHz → Sweep Time = 1 s → Trigger Source = Internal → Output ON.
N-cycle burst (5 cycles) on CH1
Pick waveform & carrier params → Burst
→ Mode = NCycle → N cycles = 5 → Trig Source = Internal (or Manual for front-panel trigger) → (optional Burst Period) → Output ON.
Gated burst using CH2 as the gate (CH1 = carrier)
CH1: set waveform/freq/amp → Burst
→ Mode = Gated → Source = External → CH2: make a square gate (0–5 V typical) → cable CH2 → Rear Ext Trig/Gate In → Outputs ON. (Gate high = output, gate low = off.)
Toggle output load (50 Ω ↔ Hi-Z) quickly
Press & hold the channel’s Output key for ~2 s to switch between 50 Ω and Hi-Z. (Or: Utility
→ Output Setup → Load.) Match this to your actual load so amplitude readings are correct.
Save current setup to USB
Insert USB → Save/Recall
(or File Manager) → choose Save Setup → pick location/filename → Save. (You can also save waveforms and screenshots.)
Quick 10 MHz, 20 Vpp sine w/ gated burst (example)
Waveforms
→ Sine → Parameter
→ Freq = 10 MHz, Amp = 20 Vpp → Burst
→ Gated, Source = External, Polarity = Positive → wire external gate → Output ON.
Sanity check when no signal appears
Verify channel Output = ON, BNC and load OK, and (if amplitudes look off) confirm Load = HighZ/50 Ω is correct for your measurement path.
FM (Frequency Modulation) - set up
CHx
→ pick carrier (e.g., Sine; set freq/amp) → Mod
→ On → Modulation Type = FM → Source = Internal (or External/CHy) → set FM Freq (modulating frequency) → set FM Dev (Δf). Output ON. (FM Dev = max ±freq deviation around carrier.)
PM (Phase Modulation) - set up
CHx
→ set carrier → Mod
→ On → Type = PM → Source (Internal/External/CHy) → set PM Freq and Phase Dev (Δφ). Output ON. (Δφ is max phase swing.)
FSK (Binary Frequency-Shift Keying) — set up
CHx
→ set carrier (this is f₀) → Mod
→ On → Type = FSK → set Key Freq (bit rate/clock) → set Hop Freq = f₁ (the “1” frequency; “0” uses the carrier f₀). Choose Source = Internal (clock) or External (rear port). Output ON.
N-cycle burst every 10 ms (example)
Set carrier (e.g., Sine 10 kHz) → Burst
→ On → Burst Type = N-loop → Trigger Source = Internal → Burst Period = 10 ms → Loops = 5 → (optional Trig Out = Rising) → Output ON.
Manual burst of fixed pulses (example)
Carrier Pulse 10 kHz, Width = 20 µs → Burst
→ N-loop → Trigger Source = Manual → Burst Period = 10 ms → Cycles = 10 → Pulse Trains = 3 → Trig Out = Rising → Output ON → press on-screen Trigger to fire.
External gate or trigger for burst
Burst
→ Trigger Source = External → select Edge (rising/falling). Wire gate/trigger to rear Aux In/Out BNC. Output ON (gate high = output if in gated mode).
Copy one channel to the other (quick clone)
Utility
→ CH Copy Coupling → Channel Copy → CH1⇒CH2 (or CH2⇒CH1) → Accept. (Excludes coupling/tracking while active.)
Frequency/Amplitude/Phase coupling (lock relationship)
Utility
→ CH Copy Coupling → Channel Coupling → enable FreqCoup / AmplCoup / PhaseCoup → choose Mode = Ratio or Deviation → enter value(s). Now when you change the reference channel, the other follows per the set ratio/offset. (Works with basic waves: Sine/Square/Ramp/Pulse/Arc.)
90° phase-locked dual-sine (example)
Set CH1 Sine 1 kHz → Utility
→ CH Copy Coupling → Channel Coupling → PhaseCoup = On → Mode = Deviation → PhaseDev = +90° → set CH2 to Sine; tweak CH1 phase and frequency—CH2 stays +90°.
Track mode (make CH2 mirror CH1)
Utility
→ CH Copy Coupling → Track = On. Now CH2 auto-matches CH1 (same waveform/params/status). (Mutually exclusive with Copy/Coupling menus.)
Sync output (rear)
Utility
→ Sync = On → rear Aux In/Out outputs a CMOS sync at the basic/modulation frequency (≤ 10 MHz; excludes Noise/DC/ext-mod). Use it to trigger your scope.
Load arbitrary waveform from USB (CSV/DAT)
Insert USB → Store/Recall
→ File Type = Data File → browse USB Device (0:) → select .csv or .dat → Recall/Load. The generator converts to .bin and opens the Arbitrary waveform screen. Output ON.
Copy arbitrary file from USB to internal memory
Store/Recall
→ File Type = Data → browse USB Device (0:) → Copy → browse Local (C:) → Paste. (Use English letters/numbers/underscores in filenames.)
Pick Arbitrary waveform mode (DDS vs TrueArb)
In Arbitrary screen → Mode = DDS (traditional) or TrueArb (point-by-point with variable sample rate; lower jitter). Then set freq/amp/offset as needed.
Make/import ARB with EasyWaveX (PC)
Create/edit waveform in EasyWaveX → save/transfer to instrument via USB-Device/LAN → the SDG stores as .bin and lists it under Local (C:). Then select it in Arbitrary and Output ON.
Set the right output load
Match the Load (50 Ω vs Hi-Z) to your measurement path for correct Vpp. Quick toggle: press & hold Output (per-channel).
File gotchas
USB filenames should use A–Z, 0–9, underscore only; other characters may not display.
