Force
Muscle contraction that creates movement. This is the effort applied to move the resistance. For example, the biceps muscle pulling on the radius to lift the forearm.
Resistance
The weight or force that needs to be moved. Can be an external load (like a dumbbell) or the body part’s own weight, eg the dumbbell in a bicep curl, or the weight of your forearm.
Axis
The movement of the joint pivots, eg the elbow joint when doing a bicep curl.
1st Class lever
RAF, eg nodding head
2nd class lever
ARF, eg calf raise
3rd class lever
AFR, Bicep curl, the elbow is the axis, the biceps apply the force, the weight in the hand is the resistance.
Why is 3rd class lever special?
Allows more speed and velocity through the body rather than force
