Matter
is anything that has mass and takes up space we can categorize it into different types based on composition . It is all a pure substance or a mixture of substances
Elements
Are pure substances they are the building blocks for everything in the universe. They are unchangeable by chemical reaction and cannot be broken down into anything else.
Compounds
Are also our substances . It is a substance where two or more elements are chemically combined. It cannot be broken down physically only chemically . Have fixed ratios of elements that make them up
Pure substances
Are elements and compounds. They cannot be broken down into simpler substances physically.
Mixtures
Are substances that are not chemically combined but physically combined instead. They cannot be separated physically unlike substances. They can have varying proportions of the substances that make them up
Homogeneous mixture
Mixed substances that cannot be distinguished from one another visually . Also known as solutions
heterogenous mixtures
Mixed substances that can be distinguished from one another visually are considered to be heterogenous
Metric system
Is the primary measurement system in science and most of the world.
Scientific notation
Is used primarily to express extreme numbers in a more immediately understandable format
Density
Is the measurement of a given substances mass per unit volume
Percent error
A calculation to derive how far off a value is from the correct corresponding value
