Something that happens outside the control of the experiment that will change the results

Maturation (Long and Short term)

Long-term -Growth, Change, Mature Shor-term - board, tired, hungry

Testing

Subjects become aware of what is being researched and changes their answer based on that

Instrumental

Changes that happen with the measurement process

Statistical Regression

Extreme scores might reset to the mean

Selection Bias

People who volunteer might be inherently different then the general population

Experimental Mortality

People drop out or die before testing is done

Internal Validity (Diffusion of Imitation of Treatment)

Control groups get the IV

Compensatory treatment

Control gets extra benefits for lack of IV. (Ex Merdith Grey)

Compensatory Rivalry

Control groups works harder to compete with experimental group

Demoralization

Control gives up loses motivation

Simple-Interrupted

Make observation, apply stimulus, Make Observation

Interrupted with Removed Treatment

Make observation, apply stimulus, Make Observation, remove stimulus, make observations

Interrupted with Switching replications

Two groups, make observations, apply stimulus at different times, make observation

Interrupted with Non-Equivalent Comparison Group

Same as Simple but with a control
