What is the objective of a soccer game?
To score by advancing the ball over the goal line and defending your own goal.
Which parts of the body can be used to play the ball in soccer?
Any part of the body except the hands and arms.
How long are the halves in a varsity high school soccer game?
40 minutes each.
What is the role of the forwards (strikers) in soccer?
They are the primary attackers on offense, who try to score.
What is the role of the midfielders (halfbacks) in soccer?
Players that play both offense and defense and control the flow of the game.
What is the role of the defenders (fullbacks) in soccer?
Players that help guard the goal area.
List the instances when substitutions are allowed.
Between periods, on a goal kick, when a goal is scored, during player caution/disqualification, or when a player is injured.
When does the ball go out of play?
When it has completely crossed a goal line or touch line whether on the ground or in the air.
How many points is a goal worth?
1 point.
List four instances that goals may be scored directly from:
Direct free kick, penalty kick, corner kick, drop ball, goalkeeper's throw, punt or drop kick
List four instances that goals may NOT be scored directly from:
Kickoff, indirect free kick, goal kick, throw-in, free kick into a team's own goal
How long is a goalkeeper allowed to hold the ball once under control?
6 seconds.
What is a direct free kick awarded for?
Fouls resulting in contact (e.g., tripping, hand balls, holding, pushing, or charging).
What is an indirect free kick awarded for?
Non-contact fouls or violations, examples would be: obstruction, dangerous play with out contact, off sides
