probability sampling
a random selection of participants so everyone has a fair chance of being chosen
non-probability sampling
a purposeful selection of participants that are easiest, most suitable, and accessible
simple random sampling
a type of probability samping where everyone in the population has an equal chance of being chosen
systematic random sampling
a type of probability random sampling where participants are picked at fixed intervals
stratified random sampling
a type of probability sampling where population is divided into 2 or more groups (stratas) with diff characteristics and simple random sampling is taken from each group
cluster random sampling
a type of probability sampling where population is divided into clusters and some of these clusters are randomly selected
convenience sampling
a type of non-probability sampling where sampling units are simply chosen because of convenience or availability
quota sampling
a type of non-probability sampling where samples are chose to fill up a set number of participants represnting a strata
snowball sampling
a type of non-probability sampling where participants asked to find referrals to other participants
theoretical sampling
a type of non-probability sampling where samples are selected after the analyzation and examination of themes to create theories
volunteer sampling
a type of non-probability sampling where volunteers offer or actively recruited
