Input Device
A hardware component that allows data to be entered into a computer.
Keyboard
The most common input device used to input text, numbers, and instructions.
QWERTY
The most common layout of keys on a keyboard.
Concept Keyboard
A keyboard that uses icons or phrases instead of standard letters, often used in fast-food restaurants.
Numeric Keypad
A keypad used to enter numbers only, often utilized in ATMs and POS terminals.
Pointing Device
A type of device that allows a user to control the position of a pointer on the screen.
Mouse
A pointing device that can perform left-click, right-click, double-click, and scrolling actions.
Touchpad
A flat control surface that detects finger gestures, usually found in laptops.
Trackerball
A pointing device that controls the pointer by rotating a ball, easier for users with limited hand movement.
Remote Control
A device used to operate other devices remotely using infrared signals.
Touch Screen
A screen that allows users to interact with the computer by touching the display.
Scanner
A device that converts hardcopy images and documents into digital form.
Digital Camera
A camera that captures images digitally via memory cards.
Video Camera
A device specialized for recording video, working similarly to a digital camera.
Microphone
An input device that captures sound and converts it into a digital signal.
Sensor
Devices that input data through continuous measurements of physical quantities.
Graphic Tablet
A device that allows users to create freehand drawings using a stylus.
Webcam
A camera connected to a computer, often used for video conferencing.
Direct Data Entry (DDE) Devices
Devices that read information directly from cards or barcodes.
Barcode Readers
Devices that read information stored in barcodes.
Chip and PIN Readers
Devices used at EFTPOS terminals that read chips on cards and require a PIN.
Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Reader
Devices that scan text and convert it into editable digital text.
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)
Technology that uses radio waves to read information stored on tags.
Output Device
Hardware devices that send data out of a computer system.
Monitor
A screen used to display visual output from a computer.
Laser Printer
A type of printer that uses laser technology to produce high-quality prints.
Inkjet Printer
A printer that sprays ink onto paper, commonly used for high-quality image printing.
3D Printer
A printer that constructs three-dimensional objects layer by layer.
Speakers
Devices that output sound, commonly connected to a computer.
Actuator
A device that converts signals into physical movement.
