a series of steps that disputing parties follow in order to resolve a disagreement and reach a resolution
What is Mediation?
where a neutral third party facilitates a conversation between disputing parties but does not offer suggestions or solutions

parties come to own resolution so they will be more accepting, maintain positive relationships, const-effective, equal opportunity to communicate. no guarantee of resolution, not legally binding, a voluntary process
What is Arbitration?
where both parties put their case forward to an independent third party who makes a final decision on the outcome
Advantages (4) and Disadvantages (2) of Arbitration
guaranteed resolution, efficient process, compulsory, legally binding. no control over resolution so both parties may be unhappy, can be expensive
What is Concilliation?
where a third party actively participates in discussion, providing advice and suggesting solutions
