England wealthier but majority remained poor; struggled with price inflation
more stealing
more severe punishments and organised law enforcement
hard to maintain control
old systems not good enough anymore
more printed meant more demand in tales of crime
more people wanted stories so sometimes faked stories
deterrent- more people heard of crimes (embarrassing)
could be inspired to commit crime
formation of the CofE
more rioting and disrespect to government
population distrusts the church and monarch
removal of churches influence over crime and punishment
Civil War- parliament defeated and executed the king
parliament rising in power and influence
more people worried and so turned to crime
their wealth and influence increased so they encouraged laws that defended their rights
unfair system where landowners better off
divided society into rich and poor
