Describe skeletal muscle tissue.

Skeletal muscle:

  • Is controlled voluntarily.
  • Pulls on bones or skin to move the body.
  • Cells are long, cylindrical, multinucleate, and striated (striped).
  • Cells are called muscle fibers.
  • Is packaged into organs called skeletal muscles.

New cards

Describe cardiac muscle tissue.

Cardiac muscle:

  • Is involuntarily controlled.
  • Is found only in the heart.
  • Cells are striated, have only one nucleus, are shorter and branched.
  • Cells are connected via gap junctions at intercalated disks.
  • Gap junctions allow for rapid communication of electrical impulses.
