Ecology
The study of how organisms interact with each other and their environment.
Ecotone
A transitional zone between two different ecosystems that may have higher biodiversity.
Biodiversity
The variety of different species in a particular ecosystem, leading to greater ecosystem stability.
Ecological niche
The role and space an organism fills in an ecosystem, including its habitat, resource use, and interactions with other organisms.
Exotic species
Non-native species introduced to an ecosystem that can disrupt the existing balance.
Invasive species
Exotic species that spread rapidly and can cause harm to native populations and ecosystems.
Population change
Variations in the number of individuals in a population due to factors such as births, deaths, immigration, or emigration.
Abiotic factors
Non-living physical and chemical elements in an environment, such as climate and soil.
Biotic factors
Living components of an ecosystem, including plants, animals, and microorganisms.
Competition for niches
The struggle between species for the same resource in an ecosystem, often leading to shifts in population dynamics.
