Council of Trent (dates and actions taken)
1545-1563, reaffirmed Catholic teachings, banned 5 main abuses, drew up the Catechism
Catechism
A book that summarises the main teachings of the Catholic Church designed to explain the faith in a simpler way for ordinary people.
Jesuits (founder and actions)
Ignatius Loyola, missionaries and educators that set up schools to defend the Catholic faith worldwide, especially in Asia and America. They taught sons of nobility and wealthy families as they would have the most power when they grew up.
Inquisition (Roman and Spanish)
Used censorship, trials and punishment for heresy and tried to suppress Protestantism. Spanish inquisition was established before the Reformation, targeting people who were suspected of not being true Christians or secretly practising another faith, specifically Jews and Muslims.
