initiates the communication process, intends to convey information ideas or feelings

encode/encoding
process of converting message to symbols, words, gestures or visuals. how sender wants to express the message

means by which message is conveyed from, from sender to reciever (medium) like face to face or phone call

recieves message and interprets it. effectiveness of the communication depends on the reciever's ability to comprehend the message
decoding/decode
process where reciever interprets or understand the message, influenced by reciever's background, context, and experiences

enables sender to gain the response and understanding of the reciever
