Fluid Statics
Deals with problems associated with fluids at rest. The fluid can be either gaseous or liquid.
Hydrostatics
Deals with problems associated with liquids at rest.
Aerostatics
Deals with problems associated with gases at rest.
Pressure
The normal stress in a fluid at rest.
Hydrostatic force
Increase linearly with depth in liquid containment structures, such as water tanks.
Resultant Fluid Force
The magnitude of the resultant fluid force is equal to the pressure acting at the centroid of the area multiplied by the total area.
Center of Pressure
The point through which the resultant force acts.
Pressure Prism
A graphical interpretation for the force developed by a fluid acting on a plane area.
Curved Surface Above Liquid
The weight of the liquid and the vertical component of the hydrostatic force act in opposite directions.
Circular Surface
A surface where the hydrostatic force always passes through the center of the circle.
