Approach Callouts
“Gear Down Before Landing Checklist”
Where:
• Visual: Before descending below TPA
• Instrument: ½ dot below glideslope intercept (or at FAF, if no vertical guidance)
Actions - Pilot Flying:
• Complete the Gear Down Before Landing checklist, calling out each step.
• After the first step (GEAR… 3 GREEN), leave your hand on the selector until the PNF also announces “Three green.” Then, proceed with the remaining steps.
Actions - Pilot Not Flying:
• Monitor the PF’s performance of the checklist. (Reference the checklist placard.)
• After the PF announces “Gear - three green,” verify that the landing gear is deployed, and then state “Three green.”
“Blueline—GUMP. Gas, Undercarriage, Mixtures, Props.”
Where:
• Visual: On base or turning final
• Instrument: 1,000 feet AGL
Actions - Pilot Flying:
• Call out “Blueline—GUMP.”
• Verify the aircraft is on speed (VYSE).
• Check the items, calling out each one in turn (“Gas, Undercarriage, Mixtures, Props”).
Actions - Pilot Not Flying:
• Silently back up the PF.
“Gear Down—Stabilized”
Where:
• All approaches: 400 feet AGL
Actions - Pilot Flying:
• Confirm that the landing gear is down and that all stabilized approach criteria are met.
• Announce “Gear down—stabilized.”
Actions - Pilot Not Flying:
• After the PF’s callout, confirm that the gear is down and the approach is stabilized.
• Announce “Gear down—stabilized.”
Notes: • If either pilot notes that the gear is not down, or the approach is not stabilized, go around.
"Approaching Minimums" / "Minimums"
• During instrument approaches, to enhance altitude awareness, the PF will also call out "Approaching Minimums" when 100 feet above MDA or DA, followed by "Minimums" at MDA or DA.
