Theonomy

A deontological approach where actions are right or wrong as set down in the Bible

‘sola scripture’ - scripture alone

2
New cards

Propositional knowledge of God

  • Accepting the truth of what is set down. (what a person is told by someone else)

  • In education a student accepts the word of the teacher E.g. Paris is the capital of France

  • In religion a believer accepts what they read or what they are told E.g. the word of scripture, creeds, church doctrine.

  • This type of knowledge is NOT accessible by reason or experience

Biblical imperatives - Richard Mouw

You must accept everything in the Bible - all of them count + all of them matter (he would be against Joseph Fletcher who said Christianity is all about agape) - agape doesn’t trump other things in the Bible

The inerrancy of scripture

This means the Bible is infallible, believers can trust it completely and rely on what it says – it always gives the right answer
