Short Field Take-Off
A technique used to take off from a short runway by maximizing available space and using specific procedures to ensure a safe ascent.
Ailerons into the wind
A technique used during take-off to maintain aircraft control by deflecting the ailerons against the wind.
Vx
Best angle of climb airspeed, used when there are obstacles to clear after take-off.
Vy
Best rate of climb airspeed, used when no obstacles are present after take-off.
Full back pressure
Pitching the nose of the aircraft upwards during take-off to keep the nose wheel off the ground.
Flaps
Movable surfaces on the wings that increase lift during take-off and landing.
Precautionary landing
A landing executed at a higher altitude to assess the landing area and approach safely.
Go Around
A maneuver executed when a pilot decides to abort the landing and circle back for another attempt.
COWLS Check
A pre-landing checklist assessing Civilization, Obstacles, Wind, Length, and Surface of the landing area.
Trim for 60 kts
Adjusting the aircraft's trim setting to maintain a speed of 60 knots during landing.
Minimum braking
Applying brakes delicately during landing to ensure smooth deceleration and control.
Pan Pan Call
An urgent communication made by a pilot indicating a situation that needs attention but is not an emergency.
